Resources

The mission of VHJA is to encourage safe and fair competition in the Hunter/Jumper discipline in Vermont. From time to time, misunderstandings and mix-ups create frustrating situations for new members which becomes a barrier to competing in our organization. In an effort to encourage competition, exceptions can be reasonable however those opportunities must be available to all members. The VHJA board has created an application form to allow members to appeal the board for points based on extenuating circumstances. These circumstances are not common and will not be granted repetitively to any individual member. If you feel you may be in this situation please complete this form and submit it to within two weeks of the results for the show in question being posted online.

What Do I Enter? View our rider cheat sheet to help determine what classes might be right for you!

Hundreds of horse and rider VHJA results are entered each year.  Riders (and/or their parents) are responsible for checking the results and VHJA point standings to determine if there are any errors.  Use this Points Tracking Form to track your or your child’s results at the show, and check the standings found on the Welcome page of this site (top right corner) to ensure the results match your records.  Report any errors so that they can be confirmed with the judge’s results.  All discrepancies must be reported by announced deadline or the results stand as is.

Tip:  Make sure that you record your membership under the same name that you use on your entry forms!  The points software identifies riders by their names.  If you record your membership as Rebecca Bailey, be sure that you enter under the same name with the same spelling.  It is otherwise up to the secretary to identify the error, and sometimes nicknames are not obvious (Elizabeth – Libby, Betty, Betsy, Lyza, Liz…)

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is an “incomplete entry”?  Each individual show controls their own show fees (class fees, post-entry fees, incomplete entry fees, etc).  Some shows, but not all, charge an incomplete entry fee for show entries that arrive before the closing date with missing information.  To know what information is required to avoid this fee it is best to contact each individual show as expectations can vary.  As of spring 2018, VHJA shows will accept entries as complete as long as they have Rider/Owner/Trainer information and payment method.  Some shows require all signatures as well.

What questions do you have?  Feel free to email us.  We are happy to help and are currently expanding this page with information our members, old and new, need to make the most of their Vermont showing experience.
