VHJA Young Hunter Futurity Program

The VHJA Young Hunter Futurity Program is an opportunity for owners to showcase young animals, increase their value and marketability, and give them some early positive show experience. All entries must be pre-nominated and paid prior to their first round.

Nomination fee for 2024 (which includes all FUTURITY class horse show entry fees) will be $150.00.

*** There must be a minimum of two entries for the class to count toward year end points.  If the class does not run 3 times the nomination fee will be returned.

In 2009 the VHJA Board of Directors waived the nomination fee for any horse/pony adopted from a certified horse rescue organization (any breed) or any recognized Thoroughbred Retirement Organization. Owners must provide proof of adoption/rescue with the futurity application in order for the fee to be waived.

To be eligible for this class horses or ponies may be 6 years of age or younger (increased from 5 years of age). Age advances as of January 1st of the current show year. If your horse turns 7 on any date in 2024 he/she is INELIGIBLE for the Young Hunter Futurity.

Owners must be VHJA members. Horses must be registered for VHJA points and the nomination form must be accompanied by at least one of the following in order to show proof of age: a breeder’s certificate; a veterinarian’s certificate; a USEF permanent registration card; or breed registration papers. Any breed or sex is eligible to compete. The futurity may be divided between horses and ponies if entries warrant. Riders may be of any age; adults may ride ponies; stallions must be ridden by adults.
